When eating is recycling
The Freegan movement has been calling for a fairer consumer system since the 1990s. To do this, local activists collect good food from the garbage and also organize popular dinners and banquets. Even if it looks like a problem or even a health hazard. Journalist Diana Aller, investigated the issue a few months ago for 'Tentacionales'. Diana says in her article that most of her food came from theBasurtenian. In her shopping bag, from Florette's salad (its expiration date was near), there were expired scones or yogurts that she would never buy. The rule that fermented milk products should have a maximum time limit for consumption was repealed in 2013. Since then, companies can decide what date of consumption to give to these products. But only that date marks when the food loses its properties of smell or taste, although the risk of intoxication is minimal. This measure was part of a strategy to avoid wasting food. In a country that lacks specific regulations against such waste, however, it is a matter of a lack of legislation. As it does in France. What we dohave is this type of strategy from the Ministryof Agriculture, which states: "We believe that policies should be directed towards awareness, education and the co- responsibility of all the actors in the supply chain, respecting the freedom of the producer and the consumer to offer and choose the products that best meet their needs".
